Get Ready for Farm to CACFP Week
August 6, 2026
When children learn where their food comes from, mealtime becomes about more than nutrition. They develop connections to their communities, curiosity about healthy foods and an appreciation for the people who grow them.Â
Each year, the National CACFP Association celebrates Farm to CACFP Week, a national campaign that highlights the many ways child and adult care programs can connect local food, gardening, and agriculture education with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Through these efforts, providers can strengthen community food systems while helping participants build lifelong healthy habits. Â
There's no better time to get inspired by local food and learning. With Farm to CACFP Week (October 18-24, 2026) just around the corner, we're kicking off the celebration with a free webinar.Â

Supporting Children Through Local Food and LearningÂ
Farm to CACFP is about much more than what's served on the plate.Â
When children participate in gardening activities, learn about agriculture, or taste fruits and vegetables grown in their region, they engage with food in a hands-on way. These experiences can help make healthy eating more exciting while encouraging exploration and learning.Â
Even small activities, such as reading books about farming, growing herbs in a classroom garden or introducing a locally-grown fruit at snack time, can create memorable learning opportunities. Farm to CACFP helps connect nutrition education with real-world experiences that children can see, touch and taste.Â
Strengthening Local CommunitiesÂ
Every local food purchase creates a connection between care programs and their surrounding community.Â
When providers purchase food from local farmers and producers, they help support local agriculture and keep food dollars circulating within their community. Farm to CACFP creates opportunities for partnerships that help communities thrive. Â
These connections also help children understand where their food comes from and appreciate the people who grow and produce it.Â
