Serious Deficiency in the CACFP

Serious Deficiency in the CACFP (1)

At the start of 2026, the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) hosted a webinar for CACFP State agencies on the Serious Deficiency Process. The training was meant to equip State agencies with the ability to identify serious deficiencies and maneuver through the serious deficiency process.

USDA’s goal for the training was to clarify statutory, regulatory and administrative requirements to minimize instances of fraud, waste and program abuse.

This training was specific to State agencies overseeing institutions – sponsoring organizations and independent centers contracting directly with the State agency. During the training, FNS shared that this would be the first in a series of webinars on the serious deficiency process.
