Our partners at Sesame Street in Communities have resources to help families stay safe and healthy when extreme heat strikes. Share these resources with the families you serve to stay cool, hydrated, and cared for during periods of high heat.

Storybook: Summer Sips

This storybook has creative ways to drink more water. The story helps educate children that their bodies need water to stay healthy. It also has ideas to make water more flavorful by adding fruits to give it a fruity flavor.

Learning at Home: Reading

Reading opens doors to new and exciting worlds. Hearing and seeing letters and words help babies learn language! Toddlers relish the time spent reading together with you. And when older kids read, they unleash the power of their imagination! Everyone benefits from a good book! Read together every day as part of your family’s routine.

Consider these strategies for before, during, and after reading a story together.

Learning at Home: Math

Math is everywhere—it’s in the numbers, shapes, and patterns all around us—even at home! We can have magical math moments at the breakfast table, while creating a work of art, or in the rhythm of our favorite song. When we measure, compare, count, and draw, we’re building math skills—and having fun.

Learning at Home: Brain Builders

Children learn and grow through every experience. When you talk with them, ask them questions, and offer comfort, you’re nurturing a relationship that will help children feel safe and secure to explore and learn about everything around them. By using everyday moments for learning, you’re building their brains! Explore brain-boosting ideas.
