Meet Our Keynote Speaker: Mike Brown, Jr.
Mike Brown's journey with the YMCA began in preschool at the age of three, and his experiences since then have shaped his deep commitment to community service. His story is one of resilience, love and the power of community, overcoming personal hardships, including abuse, loss and struggles with mental health, to lead transformative change at the YMCA.
With over 30 years of experience in the YMCA movement, spanning seven distinct communities across the country, Mike has demonstrated an unwavering passion for leadership and advocacy. His dedication to empowering youth, teens and families has led to the development of impactful programs such as after-school initiatives, mentorship programs and summer camps - each designed to provide the tools and resources individuals need to thrive.
A Passion for Advocacy and Social Change
Mike’s advocacy work extends far beyond the YMCA. He is a strong proponent of education access, job training programs, and efforts to combat hunger and homelessness. His dedication to promoting equality, justice and opportunity for all is evident in his tireless work to create a world where everyone has access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
Deeply rooted in his personal experiences, Mike’s drive to serve and uplift others stems from overcoming personal trauma and loss. After losing his son in 2001 and his wife in 2020, he has continued to channel his experiences into meaningful work that fosters hope, resilience and lasting change.
